The Children’s Trust has received a donation of technology worth £52,000 that will allow children to explore unique experiences.

The package, which was donated by Lifelites, includes a Magic Carpet. The Magic Carpet is a revolutionary piece of projection equipment which provides multi-sensory learning and games.

Eyegaze equipment was also donated, which can be used by children who are non-verbal or have communication barriers. Eyegaze technology uses infrared sensors, mapping eye movements to support communication.

Lifelites visited the charity’s headquarters in Tadworth, Surrey on 16 March to install the generous donation of equipment  and to train staff and families on how to use it.

During the day staff and families enjoyed learning and playing with the new equipment which also included sensory tents, tablets, and music technology.

Lifelites is a charity that works with hospices and other organisations to enrich the lives of children with disabilities or life-limiting conditions. Lifelites has been donating technology packages to The Children’s Trust for 24 years.

As well as the donation of technology they provide ongoing technical support and maintenance.

Rob Lightfoot, chief executive of Lifelites, said: “We are delighted to continue our partnership with The Children’s Trust. As the needs of the children and families using their services change and become more complex, Lifelites has responded by providing an extensive package of the latest assistive technology.

“With over 20 years’ experience, we know that these technologies will empower children and young people with disabilities to engage and interact with the people they love and enjoy the world they live in. We hope that this support helps them to create many joyful memories.”

Melanie Burrough, Director of Therapies at The Children’s Trust, said: “Everywhere you look across the The Children’s Trust site you will see the long-lasting mark that Lifelites has made for us. The residential houses and therapy treatment rooms contain Lifelites accessible computers, gaming units, Magic Carpets and accessible technology that allows all of the children and young people here to get involved.

“Our technology offer would be a fraction of what it is without Lifelites. We wanted to extend our huge thanks and appreciation to the Lifelites team for their generous support over the years.”
