Our book for teenagers with acquired brain injury has taken runner-up in the Information for Young Adults category at the British Medical Association’s Patient Information Awards.
Me and My Brain was described by the judging panel as an ‘exceptional resource’.
The reviewer said: “The advice is practical, sensible and non-judgemental.
“The user panel of young people resonates throughout the resource in terms of content and in the pictures. It includes pictures of the contributors and a group photo on the cover, so their presence is certainly visible.
“The section on alcohol drinking is very well done.”
Maria Coyle, project lead and author of the resource said: “We listened to what teenagers had to say and the types of information they wanted after having a brain injury.
"They played a huge part in developing and shaping Me and My Brain, along with clinical experts at The Children’s Trust. We’ve had feedback from young people that the book has helped empower them in managing the effects of their brain injury and this is exactly what we were aiming for.”

The book was also shortlisted for the User Engagement Award. However, this award was won for the short film, From Me to You – also created by The Children’s Trust. The film is for children and families who stay at The Children’s Trust for rehabilitation after a brain injury.
The reviewer praised the piece, saying: “It touches one’s heart when watching the video of children and their carers or parents sharing their experiences.
“It gives the message very clearly of service provision in The Children’s Trust and the standard of care provided there. Hearing from service users and parents/carers makes it more powerful.”
