Early in 2021, The Children's Trust launched the Shine a Light project.
Its purpose was to bring together all those who have ever been supported by The Children’s Trust to create a collection of photographs that show how different living with brain injury and neurodisability can be for every family.
The online gallery is now live on The Children's Trust's website. The aim was to reconnect with as many children and young people as possible, and there were over 60 submissions – with all the services offered at The Children’s Trust represented.
Every photograph shares a special memory in a family’s journey and helps to tell their story. Taking part is 19-year-old Paul who was at The Children’s Trust 10 years ago after he sustained a brain haemorrhage when he was eight years old.
Paul’s mum, Karen, says: “When we found out The Children’s Trust wanted to connect with children they helped, we got in touch immediately. They worked on every part of Paul, including his speech, and his physiotherapy, so Paul could learn to play again. Now, we have a happy 19-year-old. We couldn’t have got to this point without their help all those years ago.”
It’s a truly inspiring collection, however, it is by no means complete. As more young people and their families are supported, the gallery will be added to.
