May enrichment week: A fun-filled journey of discovery
Published on: 31/05/24
The half term break has been packed with a variety of exciting and educational activities for the children and young people we support. From exciting canal boat trips to interacting with adorable animals, this week has been designed to provide enrichment, learning… but most of all fun!
Here's a glimpse into the adventures the children had during this special week:
Tuesday, 28 May - Swingbridge Community Boats
The week kicked off with an outing to Swingbridge Community Boats. The children had the opportunity to enjoy a serene boat experience with the gentle pace and tranquillity of the water. These trips offer the chance to enhance well-being and connect with nature.
Wednesday, 29 May - Small animal encounter (Kingswood Shetlands and Friends)
The midweek session was hands-on with a variety of small animals, courtesy of Kingswood Shetlands. The children were thrilled to meet and interact with both furry and non-furry friends including, tortoises, a hedgehog, rats, rabbits, insects, a gecko, a bearded dragon, and guinea pigs. This interactive session allowed the children the opportunity to learn more about the animals' habits, diets, and unique characteristics.
Thursday, 30 May - Session with Zac
On Thursday, the children had a special visit from alumnus Zac, who shared his personal experience and inspiring story. This session was a unique opportunity for the children and families to ask questions from someone who has had a similar experience to them.
When asked why he wanted to come back in to talk to the young people Zac said: "It's the least I can do. The Children's Trust has enabled me to go on and live my life so I wanted to give back.
"The foundation for recovery is laid at The Children's Trust and continues when you go home. You have to persevere and have a positive mindset. I hope I have inspired them to keep going because I know that would have helped me when I was here."
Friday, 31 May - celebration festival
The week concluded with a vibrant celebration festival held in the gardens. The children enjoyed a range of activities including traditional maypole dancing, glitter tattoos, games, and crafts. The festival was a joyous occasion, bringing together the children, their families, staff and volunteers to celebrate the end of a fantastic week.
