A summer to remember

On Thursday we marked the end of our summer enrichment programme with an inclusive summer festival. It was a day to remember, with the sun shining and families, staff, and volunteers enjoying the beautiful grounds at Tadworth Court.
What is enrichment?
During the school holidays, The Children’s Trust play team work hard to produce an exciting programme of activities to enrich the lives of the young people we support. These have ranged from day trips out on both speed and canal boats, to theatre and graffiti art workshops at our national specialist centre in Tadworth, Surrey. The summer festival is the traditional end to the activities and a chance to reflect on everything they have achieved.
Festival spirit
The event opened with a children’s parade, featuring floats they had made to represent themselves and the residential houses they stay in while at The Children’s Trust. Staff and volunteers were there to greet and cheer them on as they entered the festival in style.
Inside the festival there were an array of activities for the children and families to enjoy, including a photo booth, glitter tattoos, festival hair braids, mocktails and even horse and cart rides.
Benefits of play
Taking part in events such as the summer festival provides multiple benefits to the children and families we support. Using tools like switches to engage everyone in craft activities and wheelchair-accessible equipment such as specially adapted horse and carts, allows the young people to participate in age-appropriate activities, spend quality time with family and peers and of course, have fun!
