This week we were delighted to welcome back two members of staff who worked at The Children’s Trust in 1989.

Alison and Sandra met whilst working together at The Children’s Trust, when it was known as Tadworth Court Brain Injury Rehabilitation Unit. Alison was the Paediatric Senior House Officer and Sandy worked as the Paediatric Registrar and, at that time, they looked after the children with brain injury and cystic fibrosis.

We invited them in for a tour of the site, including the mansion house where they remember sleeping in the staff quarters upstairs, and our residential and rehabilitation facilities. They were particularly delighted with the beautiful grounds and the range of assistive technology that we now have.

During their visit, they had the chance to help a young person achieve some of his speech and language therapy goals, which were to speak to a new person and ask them some questions. The young person did a great job and even kept them on their toes with a few cheeky antics! Alison and Sandra then played a game of ‘guess who’ with him, which meant the young person had to work to formulate and answer questions, and use his memory to recall previous answers – all important therapy after a brain injury.

Alison and Sandra remarked on our multi-disciplinary approach to patient rehabilitation – and were impressed that we could offer rehabilitation, accommodation, care and psychological support for the whole family, plus education, all in one place.

Sandra said:

It’s wonderful to see that it has developed so much over time, whilst still keeping the same patient-first philosophy.
