Emilie sustained an acquired brain injury last year. Tonight she will be at the WellChild winners ceremony, attended by TRH the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. The WellChild awards take place to celebrate the inspirational qualities of the UK’s seriously ill children and young people and those who go above and beyond to make a difference to their lives.
In 2018 Emilie had a brainstem tumour resection and acquired a brain injury. Emilie lost the ability to speak, walk, coordinate herself and to balance. She also has a tracheostomy.
Emilie has been through an intense period of rehabilitation that has enabled her to communicate, walk and learn to balance again. This included rehabilitation at The Children's Trust. Through her determination to be the best she can be Emilie got well enough to go home and get back to her studies. She has set university as her next goal. Emilie fundraised for the rehabilitation team who supported her by giving fun makeovers to staff.
The Duke of Sussex has been patron of WellChild for over 10 years. Last year both the Duke and Duchess attended the awards and met with the winners.
