Mum Kat is helping to spread awareness about brain injury, following her son Zack’s brain injury over 10 years ago.
She told us: “Acquired brain injury left me as a mum feeling isolated, scared and alone. My son was out of control and I didn’t know where to turn.”
“I’m speaking out as a mum with a son of ABI – an invisible epidemic! A chronic condition with hidden disabilities and lifelong consequences.”
Kat discusses how she has had to fight for funding and her call to parents in a similar position is “Keep fighting you deserve it!”
Kat appeared on BBC Breakfast on Saturday morning with CBIT’s Gerard Anderson, Head of Brain Injury Services.
Today she was on BBC Three Counties Radio for Scotland and Somerset.
Kat calls on parents to seek help – she has accessed support on acquired brain injury from CBIT and the Cambridge Centre for Paediatric Neuropsychological Rehabilitation (CCPNR). Families can also find information on childhood brain injury on www.braininjuryhub.co.uk.
Kat has offered her help to parents saying: “I want to continue to be a voice for parents with ABI and will do anything I can to support them so they don’t feel alone.”
