Our response to government charity funding.
It's very positive news that the Government is supporting the charity sector through this challenging time and we are grateful for the gesture.
If The Children's Trust is eligible to receive any of the funding, I sincerely hope that it will go some way towards covering the increasing costs caused by the global pandemic crisis.
Our costs are mounting daily. We are supporting the NHS by moving children from hospitals to our national specialist centre in Tadworth, in order to free vital bed space for coronavirus patients. We need to fund additional Personal Protective Equipment as many of the children are shielded. Our accommodation costs are also increasing, for children who are unable to move home until the threat of the virus subsides.
With all of our 20 charity shops now closed and many fundraising events cancelled, funding is a major challenge for The Children's Trust, as it is for all charities, who face a huge drop in income. The Government's funding package will not cover this shortfall so the announcement is, hopefully, just the beginning of further financial support. Our sector will be crucial in helping societal recovery once this pandemic passes, so there are longer term benefits of supporting charities now.
