General Volunteering

The 1 – 7 June marks the 39th year of Volunteers’ Week. Here at The Children’s Trust, we are joining thousands of charities and voluntary organisations recognising the contribution volunteers make across the UK.

The Children’s Trust is hugely grateful to receive the support of over 1,000 volunteers. On average, our volunteers give 4,000 hours of their time to support The Children’s Trust every month.

Celebrate and Inspire

With this year’s theme of ‘Celebrate and Inspire’, we hope to encourage people to be the change that they want to see and get involved in volunteering in whatever way works for them.

There are many ways individuals can volunteer to support The Children’s Trust and help us make a difference to the lives of children with brain injury and neurodisability. From one-time opportunities at events throughout the year to regular opportunities in one of our charity shops. We also provide opportunities for volunteers at our rehabilitation centre and residential school in Tadworth, Surrey.

We couldn’t do it without our volunteers

Volunteers are essential to our service delivery and charitable operational activities. They fulfil roles such as drivers, retail staff, working directly with the children and young people we support, and helping at our fundraising events across the UK.

Our drivers take children to medical appointments, as well as on trips and outings.

Our retail volunteers support our Shop Managers in the smooth, day-to-day operations of all shop activities, to help raise vital funds.

On-site volunteers can range from our coin counting team to administrative support and supporting our fundraising team.

Our Events volunteers help marshall events, cheer on our runners, man fundraising stalls and hand out flyers.

Hannah Liles, Head of Public Fundraising at The Children’s Trust, says: “Our events are an essential part of our fundraising mission. Events raise vital funds so that we can support children and young people with brain injury and neurodisability. They also help us make sure that our cause is heard far and wide.

“The Children’s Trust events vary in audience and size, but all depend on the time and skills of volunteers. These events simply wouldn’t happen without them."

At every event we do, I am always overwhelmed by the generosity, positivity, and willingness to help of each volunteer – for this the team and I are beyond grateful.
